Last Summer Hurrah!

So in a last hurrah for the end of summer we took the kids to an unnamed but local chocolate themed park that shall remain nameless.  The Thrill Seeker As a younger man, I was quite the thrill seeker, but as I’ve grown older and wiser my disdain for thrill rides and their associated lines with $8 flat, watered down sodas has exponentially kept pace; but the things we do for our kids, right? Well, like every other day this past summer, it rained that day. We took a dinner…

Headaches Are Always the Worst

The following is a guest blog by an employee of Susquehanna Spine & Rehab… “Headaches are always the worst,” said Amanda. No matter who you are, you’ve had at least one headache. The crazy part is that not all headaches are the same. Headaches can be occasional or frequent. Some are dull and throbbing and some cause debilitating pain and nausea. They can be light or sound sensitive. I literally have lived off Excedrin this past year. Every morning I woke up with a throbbing headache that would not go…

Can acupuncture treat my…

Chinese Medicine is a full service medicine that can treat a great variety of ailments by addressing each person as an individual.  Unlike Western Medicine, it does not treat or cure diseases. Disease mechanisms are an entirely Western Medical concept.  Patients often identify themselves with these diseases, i.e. “I am diabetic.”  You are not a disease!  Diseases have become generalized labels that cover everyone with similar symptoms.

How is your posture?

If you are like most people, you just sat up straighter.  Some people will admit their posture is off; many that don’t, should.  In our society today there are many factors that contribute to bad posture.  Texting is one!  Many people work on computers all day.  The way you sit, stand, read, drive, and work can all put added stress on your spine.  Here is a summary of research in the journal Surgical Technology International.

Are custom orthotics right for you?

My oldest is crazy in her growing patterns.  One leg will grow, and then a few weeks later, the other will catch up.  It really creates a problem because the longer leg will look like it is wedged up under her hips that creates an imbalance in the hip, which causes back pain.   I came home from work the other day and she said “Daddy Daddy I put my orthotics in my shoes today and my back didn’t hurt at all.  Those things are awesome!”

How I beat, well, am beating Rosacea.

I got the curse of the Celts. People as white as me weren’t meant to grow up in sunny South Texas. Mother Nature had assigned us to Northern Europe. Having been exposed to hours of intense sun has allowed me more than one trip to the dermatologist-and the real reason I gave up my previous career as a male model. Rosacea is NOT caused by alcoholism; it’s a genetic disorder common in us honkies. It’s characterized by acne-like appearance in people over 35. As opposed to acne, it is not…

Let Dead Dogs Lie

Honestly, you shouldn’t go around touching dead animals, they could carry disease. Also, who wants to talk about something so depressing right before Christmas anyway? But anyway, the holidays are one of those times where you have to be around people you may not like (surely not me) or want to be around just because you share their blood (note-sharing blood may also lead to disease) or through that really lame wedding your wife dragged you to last year with all those people you thought you wouldn’t have to see…

A place called Vertigo

Vertigo, a kind of cool Hitchcock movie and a really cool U2 song. But there’s nothing cool about the world spinning around you and puking everywhere. College students everywhere spend their weekends in the bottom of a Nat Light can trying to reproduce it; but there’s many people out there trying to stop it. Vertigo, just like other symptoms (pain, burning, numbness, tingling, coughing, runny nose…) is not a disease or disorder, but the sign or side effect of a disorder. There are 4 main, treatable causes of vertigo: BPPV,…

All that and good looking too.

Everyday people will ask me what exactly I do. Other than optimizing human performance, increasing vitality, making you look and feel younger, adding life to your years and years to your life along with improving your quality of living; not that much. I do it all by focusing on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health.  Even though it’s mostly to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs,…
