Manual therapies and manipulation of not only the spine but also other joints and tissues of the body have been employed by health practitioners for thousands of years. Early Chiropractic evolved with the intent of using spinal adjustments to stimulate the nervous system to promote health. Today, Doctors of Chiropractic manipulate all areas of the body to restore motion and rehabilitate damage caused by injury, wear, and tear.
Over time, the physical-chemical and emotional stress of life, injuries, and genetics; cause what are known as macro and micro traumas. Big and/or repetitive injuries lead to conditions that cause pain and other symptoms. Doctors of Chiropractic use many different diagnostic methods, including but not limited to physical exams, X-rays, Computerized Tomography (aka CAT scans or CT), MRIs, and more; to diagnose these diseases, disorders, and conditions.
Many people have questions about Chiropractic and how it works. Below you will find some of the more common FAQs. If you don’t see your question answered, please contact our office.
What other services can a chiropractor provide?
Many chiropractors’ knowledge and skills are vast as they gather more ways to help patients through CEUs. Our providers are continually learning and adding services to the practice to provide a full comprehensive treatment plan.
Additional services our Doctors provide:
Physical Therapy: Physical Therapy (PT) addresses the illnesses or injuries that limit your “activities of daily living” which essentially means the injury is stopping you from doing something to the best of your ability without pain or discomfort. PT commonly includes specific exercises, stretching strengthening, manual therapy, traction, electrical modalities, heat, cold, and electric stimulation.
Spinal Decompression: Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression is used for disc injuries. It is a type of motorized traction that works by gently stretching the spine and creating a creating negative pressure in the disc. This creates a vacuum effect to return the inner disc nucleus to the proper location taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine, rehydrate and heals the discs.
Cold Laser: Cold Laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light that stimulate processes within the body that help relieve pain and “push out” inflammation. We call it super charged healing. Ironically named “cold” it does create a warm sensation like being in the sun, but the word cold does differentiate from lasers used in surgical or aesthetic settings.
Dry Needling: Dry needling was born from an experiment where they were looking for the best substance for trigger point injections. As with most experiments one of the choices was a “dry” needle where there was no medication only the needle injection itself. This kept winning the experiment! Dry needling uses acupuncture needles placed in strategic places and trigger points to alleviate muscle pain. Many ask why the needle with no medication had the best effect because it create a reset of the healing process much like re booting computer.
Hydrotherapy: Hydromassage feels like a hot tub on your back, neck and shoulders but you never get wet. You remain completely clothed as you lay on a water filled mattress and relax as a series of hydro-jets massage away aches and pains. The physiological effects of heat and massage help treat many types of soft tissue injuries and other conditions. And ot just feels good.
Massage Chairs: Similar in benefits to that of the Hydromassage, in a whole other form. Think hundreds of happy little massage therapists living inside a leather recliner
