Acupuncture is a safe, low cost and effective technique that treats pain, illness, and disharmony of the mind, body, and spirit.
Acupuncture is an ancient medical treasure of profound insight into both the nature and workings of the human body. The ancient physicians took their understanding of the laws and patterns of nature and created a complete medical system that has been continuously practiced for thousands of years.
How does acupuncture work?
In a core theory of Acupuncture, illness, and pain arise due to impediments in the flow of Qi (vital energy) along pathways known as meridians. The term acupuncture encompasses a host of procedures to stimulate precise, anatomical points along these meridians. The most scientifically researched and widely known acupuncture technique involves penetrating the skin with thin, metallic needles. This technique regulates the flow of Qi throughout the whole body. It is an essential belief that the root cause of illnesses, not just their symptoms, must be treated.
Acupuncture is holistic in its approach — it seeks to treat every aspect of a person’s body, mind, spirit, and emotions. Each treatment is designed individually, and symptoms are viewed in relationship to the underlying cause of an illness or disease. Acupuncture is also used to manage pain.
What are the benefits of acupuncture?
Although acupuncture is not fully explained within the framework of Western medicine, scientific research has proposed that acupuncture produces its effects through regulating multiple network systems, including nervous, endocrine, hormonal, immune, and circulatory systems that result in the process of self-healing. Most people feel very relaxed after treatment. This usually results in less pain, stress, and tension.
What to expect? Does it hurt?
No, acupuncture does not hurt. Most patients are very relaxed during and after treatment. Acupuncture treatment involves inserting very thin needles through the skin at specific points in the body. Needles typically sit just below the skin but may go deeper if needed. Many people have said they could never have someone insert needles into them. It is uncomfortable to think about; however, patients generally do not feel them. What you do feel is the plastic sleeve that guides the needle into place. The number of needles needed, and the duration of the treatment differs depending on the condition.
What conditions does acupuncture help?
Acupuncture is an effective treatment for a number of conditions including:
Cancer Patients – ease nausea caused by chemotherapy, and increase immune response, relieve pain
Women’s Reproductive Issues – enhanced fertility, PMS symptoms, menopause, etc.
“When Dr. Lee was in chiropractic school I taught high school at an alternative school. Not a very calm environment. I was having stress-induced migraines every weekend. The only thing that helped was acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments. Now I was not that keen on the idea of someone putting a bunch of needles into me. But I didn’t feel any needles at all. Nor did I care because after one or two were in my headache stopped instantly. After a few treatments, the headaches stopped altogether.”
