Is it safe?
Yes! As one of, if not the safest form of healthcare, chiropractic care is proven safe for patients of all ages and conditions.
Does it hurt?
No, the adjustments are usually gentle and painless. There may be some soreness, muscle tightness, or discomfort after an adjustment. This is your body reacting to being put back into alignment. It’s like if you ran a 5k tomorrow, and you experience some discomfort after.
Is it addictive? I have heard that once you go to a chiropractor you never stop.
No, it is not addictive unless you become addicted to being healthy! Some patients decide they feel better after an adjustment and see the value in seeking routine adjustments. The goal is to have maintenance adjustments 3-4 times a year.
What is the cracking noise?
Sometimes an audible “crack” is heard during an adjustment. This is the shifting of fluid/gas inside the joints.
What would my family doctor say?
Many PCPs see the benefit and are referring patients to chiropractic care, and some even come themselves!
Does insurance cover it?
Many insurance companies do offer benefits that can be used in our office. We will be happy to call your provider and ask all the questions for you. There is also an insurance section on our website that may be able to answer some of your questions!
Will he break my neck?
hile that is true in movies, the average person cannot do that much damage. Chiropractic adjustments do not apply that much force. In fact, they use low force! We take your neck to its full range of motion and then apply small changes to the vertebrae to push it into alignment.
I am in too much pain, I’m not sure I can be adjusted.
Our number one goal is the comfort of the patient. There are many techniques that can be used. Not only is adjusting not the only tool or method we have to treat people, adjusting techniques are wide-ranging and variable. We always tailor to the patient’s current needs.
Do you treat children?
Yes, we do treat children! In fact, we treat all ages. Common reasons people bring children to our office are auto accidents, sports injuries, overuse injuries, headaches, colic, toddler falls, chronic ear infections, ADHD, and Autism, just to name a few.
Have you ever adjusted an infant?
Yes! Some are only hours old. The amount of force needed to adjust an infant is very small and is usually done with the doctor’s little fingers. Think about the amount of force that is placed on an infant’s head and neck as they make their way out into the world. Nowhere near as much force is used during chiropractic care.
I usually have my husband pop my back or I can pop my own neck — isn’t that the same thing?
The popping is actually a side effect of the adjustment, and not the adjustment itself. You can get a ‘pop’ and it not have any therapeutic benefit. And not every therapeutic adjustment will make a popping sound. For an adjustment to be effective it requires a specific degree and force of movement; and every joint on every person is different. Our doctors have spent years learning and honing their adjusting craft, along with learning when not to adjust.
Is a chiropractor a doctor?
Yes! Each chiropractor has attended a chiropractic school and earned a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, and DC are the letters assigned to their name. The curriculum of chiropractic school is very similar to medical and dental school. They are taught the same general and applied sciences, diagnostic and clinical classes along with nutrition, physical therapy and adjustment techniques. Each chiropractic school has a clinic where chiropractic students will do an in-house residency. Many students will also participate in external internships.
