One of the many effects of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and concussion is headache. TBIs can come from a direct blow to the head, or any event that significantly shakes, jars, or rattles the head. Our brains are essentially a soft, gelatinous material, much like a Jello® mold. If we experience a hard impact or fall, it can create shearing force energy waves that can result in damage to brain tissue.

The headache could be from the physical trauma to the head, sprain of the neck or jaw, neurologic and/or chemical changes in the brain or some combination of these. This makes it very difficult to describe and categorize headaches associated with TBI.

Good news is, the headaches are all treatable. As with many conditions, proper diagnoses is the key before initiating treatment. This also includes treating the TBI or concussion itself. This is a multifaceted approach that involves physical fitness, visual and balance rehab, memory work, and more.
