Headaches vs. Migraines Treatment in Bel Air, MD
Regular Headaches: There’s really no such thing as a “regular” headache. There are more variations to headaches than there are grains of sand in Ocean City. When it comes to headaches, few of them actually occur because of something wrong in the head. With many headaches there is a known cause and ways to either fix or manage them with chiropractic, PT, massage, acupuncture, or other treatment modalities. Even with the rare conditions, we’ve been able to control the pain and symptoms for our patients.
Migraine: Migraines are a very specific type of severe headache that are less common than the average “headache” referred to by most patients. They are the result of abnormal blood flow to the brain. They can almost be thought of as semi-controlled strokes. Divided into multiple categories and subcategories, they range from extremely painful to abnormal sensations in the head. Migraines can cause visual (referred to as “ocular migraines”) and hearing disturbances including sensations of nausea, vomiting, fainting, paralysis, altered states of consciousness, and many more varying symptoms.
The most painful category of migraines are usually felt as a pounding or piercing, pulse-like pain behind the eye or on one side of the head or face. Migraines can be spontaneous or triggered by visual stimuli like flashing lights, sounds, certain foods & beverages like those that contain Monosodium Glutamate (MSG and any of its various names), variations in light, sleep pattern disturbances, hormones like those during cyclical flux as in menstruating women, stress, and many more.
Treatment for both headaches and migraines:
Our goal is to stop the headaches or migraines, heal the area, and prevent them from happening.
Those who suffer from headaches and or migraines should seek treatment as soon as possible, but it is never too late. Dr. Lee’s daughter has even struggled with post-trauma headaches after a concussion. The professionals at Susquehanna Spine & Rehab understand first-hand how frustrating it is to get answers. An expert neurologist at Johns Hopkins recommends vitamin supplements, chiropractic care, PT, and acupuncture as a first choice for the treatment of headaches and migraines. Post-COVID healthcare has made it difficult for specialist appointments with often months waiting for an initial appointment. Why wait? Many patients opt to try treatments at Susquehanna Spine & Rehab when they wait for specialist appointments and often times the symptoms are alleviated or gone before they make it to that initial appointment.
“I have chronic migraines and have been dealing with them for years now. Over the years, I have been to several doctors, been on several medications, and tried everything possible to find what could be triggering so many migraine attacks every month. I finally decided to give chiropractic care a try, which was completely new to me. Dr. Lee and the staff are not only knowledgeable but so friendly and I quickly became very comfortable there. The frequency of my headaches has decreased significantly each month since I started treatment. I am so happy I found out about this place! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is in need of any type of chiropractic care or rehab.”
