What is colic?
Colic is when a baby is grouchy and fussy for no reason.
What causes colic?
It’s hard to say as babies cannot tell us what is wrong. Most believe it is because they’re uncomfortable or in pain such as bowels, food allergy or gas that will not clear. Colic can happen in breast- and bottle-fed children.
Treatment for Colic
Chiropractic adjustments do help relieve colic as it allows the body to function better. Think about the anatomy of the spine even on tiny ones. The nerves all flow out of the spine between the vertebrae. If one is just a little out of line, it can cause the nerve to not fire properly thus causing whatever discomfort in the baby and the baby becomes fussy. The good news is there are no side effects of chiropractic care so if your child is fussy and suffers from colic it is worth a try!
We had a young mom come in to accompany her mom for care. She had a grouchy baby. She said he suffered from colic and had issues sleeping and she and baby were exhausted. I told her the doc can adjust babies and often they are less grumpy. She handed the baby right over!
The grouchy baby had an exam with his grandma and after the first adjustment you could see the tension release from his little face. After a few more treatments over the next few weeks there was no more grumpiness.
