Causes of Abnormal Gait in Children

These abnormal gait patterns can happen for many reasons in otherwise healthy children. Often times, a joint not functioning in the correct range of motion, muscle tightness or weakness can cause the skeletal frame to move in an abnormal pattern, can cause the foot strike pattern to be altered.

Treatment for Gait Issues

Chiropractic adjustments to the hip, leg, knee, and ankle joint will ensure they are all functioning in the proper range of motion. PT can be used to stretch or strengthen the affected muscles, tendons, and ligaments. All will ensure proper motion, foot strike, and follow through to improve the gait pattern. Fixing gait in children is key. If left untreated, these abnormalities in gait can cause long lasting issues into adulthood.
